Airway Matters: Explore key concepts underlying safe, multidisciplinary airway management.

Dear Association of Anaesthesia Associates,

We would like to invite your members to be part of a global effort to make airway management safer for all patients, by signing up to this free, flexible, innovative, online course.

University College London, in collaboration with University College London Hospital clinicians and many worldwide experts, has developed Airway Matters, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) endorsed by the Difficult Airway Society.

The safe management of a patient’s airway is one of the most challenging and complex tasks undertaken by a health professional.  Complications can result in devastating outcomes.  How can we improve safety, prevent complications, and be prepared to manage difficulties when they arise? How, in a crisis, can we ensure that human and technical resources are best utilised?

Airway Matters explores answers to these questions, with evidence on the latest technical and non-technical aspects of airway management, and current guidelines to help develop safe airway management strategies for all patients.

The content has been carefully designed to provide an up to date, original and practical educational experience.  Learners can access comprehensive course materials developed in partnership with leading experts, frontline clinicians and patients, and use the provided platform for a global discussion.

Who is this course for?

The 4th National Audit Project of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and Difficult Airway Society showed that one quarter of serious complications related to airway management occurred outside the operating theatre, and these were more likely to result in harm.
