Today the GMC have published ‘Good medical practice: interim standards for Physician Associates and Anaesthesia Associates’. This has been developed in collaboration with our Association and we are continuing to support professional guidance for AAs alongside other national organisations.

These interim standards will take effect once regulation begins and a PA or AA registers with the GMC. It provides a high-level framework for ethical decision making, while allowing PAs and AAs to exercise their professional judgement. It incorporates case studies to provide context and there are plans for further cases studies to be published in the future.
Regulation of PAs and AAs will support the development of a more sustainable workforce for the future, while keeping patients safe. The AAA supports these interim standards that provide ethical and professional guidance to AAs, and we continue to participate in development of the next version of Good Medical Practice to facilitate good patient centred care.
